The history of Captain’s Villa and the Björkudden estate dates back to the early 19th century, when the first buildings on the property were constructed. The current main villa began to take shape in the 1930s, when sea captain Andersson decided to build a new family home on the island of Heisala. Today, this villa has been carefully restored to its former glory.
The renovation of Captain’s Villa has respected traditional archipelago architecture and preserved the original spirit of a sea captain’s home. The interiors feature unique details inspired by Captain Andersson’s voyages around the world, adding character and a sense of history throughout the buildings.
The surrounding courtyard buildings were renovated alongside the main villa. In addition, an impressive sauna complex has been built along the shoreline, perfectly complementing the main house and providing an elegant setting for memorable sauna evenings. The estate also includes the Rengintalo, offering additional accommodation, as well as the Captain’s Speakeasy and meeting facilities, which have been converted from the former barn.
Completed in summer 2025, the traditional smoke sauna and the celebration hall further enhance the estate, creating an exceptional venue for hosting events and enjoying true archipelago dreams in a distinctive island setting.
Location & Accessibility
Captain’s Villa is located on the island of Heisala in Parainen. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes from the centre of Parainen and around one hour from Turku. The island is served year-round by the MS Viken ferry, and guests can also reach the villa conveniently by car all the way to the destination.
